About the Role

We are seeking an elite tax professional with deep expertise in tax planning, compliance, and strategy to oversee and manage the tax affairs of a high-net-worth tech founder and their family office. The ideal candidate will have experience in navigating complex, multi-jurisdictional tax environments and advising on personal and business tax implications for ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs). As a key pillar of the family office, this role will involve working closely with other departments (legal, investment) to deliver comprehensive tax solutions that preserve and enhance wealth.

Your Impact

  • Tax & Structuring 
    • Deep personal tax expertise across US Federal, New York, and Puerto Rico regimes.
    • Hands-on ownership of personal tax matters: income, capital gains, estate/inheritance.
    • Structure and manage Trusts (e.g., GRATs), SPVs, and holding companies.
    • Provide pre-transaction tax structuring for all major investments, liquidity events, exits, and distributions.
    • Lead residence and domicile planning across jurisdictions.
    • Provide tax input on PE, VC, real estate investments
    • Stress-test tax strategies, ensure defensibility, and continuously adapt to legislative change.
  • Controls & Compliance
    • Design and maintain strong internal controls across all entities.
    • Ensure audit readiness and institutional-grade documentation
    • Navigate KYC/AML frameworks
    • Challenge advisors, arbitrate between opinions, and drive outcomes.
  • Vendor & Advisor Management
    • Act as primary orchestrator for banks, tax advisors, legal counsel and property managers. 
    • Treat external firms as execution partners; set direction, pace, and standards.
  • Operational Leadership
    • Serve as the primary operational interface for the family. 
    • End-to-end ownership of the Family Office as an enterprise.
    • Build, run, or professionalise Family Office operations and systems.
    • Drive complex, multi-threaded projects from concept to completion.
    • Handle ad hoc financial requests from founders  and executives.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in a high-level tax advisory role, preferably within a Big Four accounting firm, law firm, or family office specializing in UHNW clients.
  • Education:
    • Advanced degree in Taxation (LL.M. or equivalent), JD, or CPA.
  • Experience:
    • Proven track record as the principal tax owner/advisor in a UHNW tax  operation demonstrating complex global tax planning and compliance 
    • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in a high-level tax advisory role, preferably within a Big Four accounting firm, law firm, or family office specializing in UHNW clients.
    • Expertise in complex tax strategies, including international tax planning, estate and trust tax, and philanthropic structuring.
    • Strong technical knowledge of US federal, state, and international tax. Puerto Rico tax experience is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
    • Proven ability to work directly with ultra-high-net-worth individuals and senior executives.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial portfolios with discretion and integrity.
    • Excellent communicator, showing great comfort and fluency in explaining complex tax matters to laypersons and avoiding needless distractions.
    • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to proactively collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Hands-on tax professional, able to run tax analysis and calculations without having to ask advisors’ help in every instance.
